Breathe in the coast. Built to let the sea in — open eaves, natural airflow, and a veranda that belongs to the garden.
Our Non-AC Cottages are for guests who understand that the best air-conditioning on the coast is the coast itself. Each cottage is oriented to draw the prevailing sea breeze through its wide-louvred windows and out through the high, pitched ceiling — the kind of cross-ventilation that has cooled homes in this region for centuries, before electricity arrived.
The structure is built from local laterite stone and timber, giving it a natural thermal mass that stays cool through the afternoon and pleasantly warm on cooler monsoon evenings. The floor is red oxide — hand-polished weekly — and the furniture is locally crafted cane and teak, light enough to rearrange but sturdy enough to last decades. A king bed sits at the centre, dressed simply in white cotton that dries quickly and breathes freely.
The wraparound veranda is the true living room here: a bamboo daybed, two rattan chairs, and an unbroken view of the garden palms that thin out to reveal a strip of sea. In the evenings, when the land cools and the breeze picks up, this is quite possibly the most comfortable room in the resort.
